The key pricing difference: executions vs tasks
n8n paid plans are based on workflow executions. One complete workflow run counts as one execution regardless of the number of steps. Starter currently includes 2,500 executions per month; Pro includes 10,000.
Zapier uses tasks. Successful workflow steps consume tasks, and some features can consume multiple tasks. The Free plan includes 100 tasks per month, while Professional currently starts at $19.99 per month.
Why that matters
Imagine one automation receives an email, validates a PDF, renames it, uploads it, logs the result, and sends a notification. In n8n that complete run is one execution. In Zapier, successful action steps contribute to task usage. Longer workflows therefore make the pricing models increasingly different.
